Our fourth annual koi day celebration!

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

On Friday, October 29, we celebrated koi day in honor of our fourth anniversary in business. It’s hard to believe we’ve been around for 4 years now. koi day is always a special day for us. This year, koi day started off with a Halloween costume contest. We had a lot of creative costumes. But then again, we have a lot of colorful characters at koi. Next, everyone split up into teams for our koi day games, sort of a koi-centric Olympic competition. And of course, the day ended with a giant feast of koi proportions. Plus, our warehouse crew surprised us all by creating a super scary haunted house. All in all, a pretty good day. Can’t wait till koi day again next year…

Here are some koi day photos:

Just got back from the URA Trade Show!

Friday, November 5th, 2010

This past week, a bunch of us from koi spent time at the 4th Annual Uniform Retailers Association Trade Show in Orlando, Florida. This is a big gathering where uniform retailers from around the country get together to see the latest product offerings from scrubs manufacturers. We at koi had our own booth, where we previewed our upcoming spring and summer collections, as well as our new Ecko UNLTD. and Ecko Red lines. The response to our new collections from retailers was great. (You’ll be seeing these new styles in stores in 2011.) We had a great time seeing old and new customers and sharing our newest collections. On the downside, we didn’t have time to check out Disneyworld nor did we get to see the Space Shuttle launch that was planned for the week (it got postponed). But all in all, we had a great time!

In any case, here are some photos we took at the show:

Kathy Peterson’s “Healthier, Happier You” November Update!

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

There’s only two more months to go in koi’s year-long “Healthier, Happier You” weight-loss campaign. As many of our koi faithful know, koi founder and designer Kathy Peterson is an active participant in the program.

Here’s Kathy’s “Healthier, Happier You” update for November 2010:

It is hard to believe that it is November already. I have about 17 more pounds to go. I really think I can do it. I started a calorie diary. I log in the amount of exercise and the food I eat every day through an iphone app. It tells me how I am tracking and where I need to cut back or increase. This has helped a great deal. I had no idea how many calories I was consuming a day. I got a physical assessment at the gym toward the beginning of the month and it wasn’t very good. I had gained all the weight I lost. Thankfully, 3 weeks after I started my log I had dropped the weight again. I am now on the right track and have been going to the gym at least 5 times a week.

My husband and I used to eat out twice a day. Now we eat out twice a week. I found it really difficult to control my calorie intake when I ate out. I was really disappointed to find out that many of the items we ate on a regular basis were very high in calories. The veggie burrito at Chipotle for example, is over a 1,000 calories. 2,000 if you include meat. It is really alarming that anyone would serve a menu item with so many calories. On the flip side, I found a great source of low calorie ice cream called skinny cow. It is very tasty and low in calories. Trader Joe’s also has bite size ice cream sandwiches so you don’t have to completely deprive yourself of all the good stuff. You guys are doing great. Keep it up. Only 2 more months to go.
